OEE = A × P × Q

About this calculator

How it works

The calculator subtracts unplanned downtime from planned production time to get run time. Availability = run time ÷ planned time. Performance = (ideal cycle time in minutes × total units) ÷ run time. Quality = good units ÷ total units. OEE is the product of the three, and the tool names the lowest factor.

Worked example (illustrative inputs)

Planned time 480 min, downtime 60 min, ideal cycle 30 s, 700 units made, 670 good. Run time = 420 min. Availability = 420 ÷ 480 = 87.5%. Performance = (0.5 × 700) ÷ 420 = 83.3%. Quality = 670 ÷ 700 = 95.7%. OEE = 0.875 × 0.833 × 0.957 = 69.8%.

How to read the result

The tool bands OEE as 85% or more (world-class), 60–85% (typical) and under 60% (improvement needed). Start with the weakest factor, here Performance, because raising the lowest factor moves OEE the most. Performance above 100% usually means the ideal cycle time is set too slow.

When to use it

Use it per shift or per day on one machine or line to track losses from stops, slow running and defects, and to choose which loss to attack first.

À propos de ce calculateur

Traduction (brouillon) — à relire.

Fonctionnement

Frequently asked questions

What is a good OEE score?

85% is the recognised world-class benchmark (90% availability × 95% performance × 99.9% quality). Most discrete manufacturers run 40–60%, so there is usually significant hidden capacity to recover.

What's the difference between OEE and TEEP?

OEE measures effectiveness during planned production time. TEEP (Total Effective Equipment Performance) multiplies OEE by Utilisation (scheduled time ÷ all calendar time), exposing capacity lost to not scheduling the asset at all.

Why is my performance over 100%?

Performance above 100% means the ideal cycle time is set slower than the line actually runs. Re-baseline the ideal cycle time to the fastest demonstrated, sustainable rate rather than treating it as a real speed win.

What should I count as downtime in this calculator?

Include every unplanned stop worth logging — breakdowns, waiting for material, unplanned changeovers, minor stops if you track them. Leave out planned events like scheduled maintenance or breaks, since those should already be excluded from planned production time. Being consistent about what counts matters more than being perfectly precise.

Can OEE be used to compare different machines or lines?

Yes — because it's a ratio, it normalises for line speed and size, so a bottling line and a CNC cell can both be scored on the same 0–100% scale. Just make sure each line's ideal cycle time reflects its own realistic best rate, not a shared assumption, or the comparison becomes misleading.

How often should I recalculate OEE?

Shift-by-shift or daily is typical for active improvement work; weekly or monthly rollups suit trend reporting to management. Calculating too infrequently hides the specific stoppage or quality event that caused a dip, which defeats the point of tracking it at all.
